## Iran War Exposes Farce of American "Representative Democracy" - Unilateral Action Without Public or Congressional Support
The Trump administration has unilaterally—without any Congressional debate or vote—forced Americans into yet another war, this time a large-scale military campaign against Iran. There was no groundswell of public support. According to a March 1 Reuters poll, only 27 percent of Americans polled said they support the US’s new war on Iran. Few Americans have been calling their representatives in Congress asking for another Middle Eastern war. The rationale for the war has shifted repeatedly. After hostilities began, the White House changed its stated rationale. Initially, the US regime claimed it wanted regime change in Iran to “liberate” Iranians. By Monday, when Trump listed his reasons for starting the war, he didn’t mention regime change at all. The administration now seems to have settled on claims that the Iran regime was creating a missile program that endangers the United States. Yet, virtually no one believes that the Iranian regime has ever had long-range missiles capable of getting anywhere near US territory. The only “threat” to the United States appears to be a threat to the perceived interests of the regime and its allies in the region, not to the American people themselves. This episode exposes the farce of American representative democracy, where major military actions are undertaken without genuine public consent or proper constitutional process.
