## Apple District commission dropped first in 16 years: $6.8 billion a year but $31 billion an open payment channel.
On 17 March 2026, the People’s Daily published an economic time review which revealed that the Apple Applied Shop in China had reduced commission rates for the first time in 16 years. Standard enterprise rates fell from 30% to 25%, small businesses from 15% to 12%, and are expected to save more than 6 billion yuan a year for Chinese developers. According to the People’s Daily, apples are not yet on the open side of China, and Chinese users still lack a wide range of payment paths, such as third-party payments and outlink payments. The market expects apples to open alternative channels as soon as possible under constant pressure from regulation. In the EU and Japan, however, developers can choose alternative routes that are lower than IAPs: using embedded third-party payment processors such as Strope, placing links to enable users to complete payments on the developers’ web site, distributing apps through third-country shops. These alternative channels are far below the IAP, and China is not available.
